The Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences seeks to fill an Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Communicative Disorders and Sciences or closely related field by the time of the appointment. Area of specialization: Open. Preferred areas of specialization: Speech Science, Motor speech disorders, Dysphagia, Neurogenic language disorders, School-based issues.
Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Preferred:
Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology, eligibility for California licensure in Speech- Language Pathology.
Responsibilities
The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Communicative Disorders and Sciences, and may supervise students in specialty clinics. The candidate is expected to maintain an active research agenda and engage and support students in their research program. Participation in department, college and University service activities is expected. The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
The Department values scholarly research, pedagogical innovation, community engagement, and culturally responsive practice. The Department enrolls about 250 students in its B.A. and M.A. programs, houses the on-campus Kay Armstead Center for Communicative Disorders (KACCD), and multiple faculty labs. Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting Date: August 13, 2020
